Featured by Apple in 70 Countries — Lakai’s First iPhone App
The Brief
Smartphones were still new, and most skate brands lived entirely on the web. Lakai wanted to bring its team videos, news, and product content into a native iPhone experience. The challenge was designing an app that felt at home on iOS while pulling live content from the brand’s existing website.
Approach
At Ethervision, I designed the UI/UX for Lakai’s first iPhone app. The interface organized team riders, skate videos, news, and product content into a clear, meaningful structure tailored for early iOS devices. My focus was shaping a mobile experience that reflected Lakai’s skate culture while making the brand’s media easy to explore.
Outcomes
The app was featured by Apple in the App Store’s “New and Noteworthy” section across 70 countries. It reached the Top 40 in the Lifestyle category in the U.S., ranking alongside major retail and brand apps. The release helped position Lakai as one of the first skate brands with a dedicated mobile presence.

Craft Notes
This project happened in the early days of the App Store, when mobile design patterns were still forming. Designing the interface meant balancing Apple’s emerging iOS conventions with Lakai’s skate-driven visual identity. The iconography and interface elements helped carry the brand’s personality into a small-screen experience built around skate media.
